Time is a gem we all wish we had more of. We cannot change the days to 28 hours but we can each evaluate the way we use our given 24 and make conscious choices. Remember that the best gift we can give ourselves, our children and anyone we come into contact with, is taking care of ourselves. We all learn by example, if we all take care of our own health and well being, others will notice and follow suit. A few thoughts on where to find the time to exercise…
- 1. Keep it simple. Start with wearing comfortable and supportive shoes that you like to walk in. Being happy and comfortable is the first step to enjoying activity!
2. Choose a goal for the week.
a. Walk to work one day
b. Park at the far end of the parking lot when shopping
c. Take your kids to the pool and get in with them - whether you play in the water or swim laps, it's all movement
d. Go out in your garden and pull weeds
e. Take an after dinner stroll
f. Take the stairs at work
g. Go for a bike ride with a friend instead of to coffee
h. Get your children involved - take them out with you
3. Get Moving
a. Take action on your goal
b. Be gentle with yourself
c. Enjoy the process
d. Smile when the fresh air soothes your skin
e. Choose a partner in motion if that helps you (must be reliable and motivated)
f. Be proud when your skin glistens with sweat…it's good for your heart and soul
4. Reward Yourself
a. Take a nap on the weekend (I have 2 girls, one of which does still nap - I nap with her some days and though I get nothing tangible accomplished during that time, I treasure it)
b. Get a massage
c. Trade a massage with your partner or child
d. Take a night off of cooking dinner and get healthy take out
5. Keep on movin'. A body in motion stays in motion, right! The initial umph can be tricky but once you are moving, you will love it! Choose your next goal and smile!
